Co-regulation Needs More Than “Calm”

Did you know 70% of our love dynamics involve mismatch, being out of sync? This includes parent/child interactions! (Tronick/Gold, The Power of Discord)

Did you know that co-regulation from parent to child and the child's development of Social Engagement system functioning needs more than just “staying calm?"

Children and their developing nervous systems depend on their parents/caregivers:

  • to practice being the strong and steady container,

  • to reclaim their own robust quality of embodiment,

  • to model taking up space.

This helps kids to feel celebrated for their own unique expressions and their inevitable rainbow of feelings. 🌈

Humans develop a sense of unique Being within five Circles of Support:

🌀 the Womb,

🌀 the Pouch,

🌀 the Lap,

🌀 the Watch,

🌀 the Self-supported Adult.

Chi for Two® - The Energetic Dance of Healthy Relationship is a polyvagal-informed, multi-generational, trauma healing method. M-Bodied® Therapy and Coaching offers this developmental and relational approach using specific Chi for Two practices within the Circles of Support for parents and their children.

M-Bodied Therapy & Coaching helps parents to explore trauma healing practices that invite movement expressions that mobilize Play/Dance. The nervous system state of Play/Dance promotes re-parenting of the parent's nervous system as well as deep nourishment for their child and ultimately the family system.

When caregiver/child interactions follow the pattern of the interactions between wild mammal mothers and their offspring, co-regulation is more likely to occur in matching dances and in mismatching dances.
